Year 7-8

In Year 7&8, our Tamariki are in core classes for Reading, Writing, Maths and Social Studies. They are also fortunate enough to go into specialist classes for their options. This year these will include Digital Technology, Hard Materials Technology, Art, Science, Food Technology and Tikanga Māori.

Reading

During years 7 and 8, students continue to develop their accuracy, fluency and independence in reading and in using texts to support their learning using paper and digital platforms.

Writing

In years 7 and 8, students will create texts using content, language, and a clear and logical text structure to meet the requirements of the curriculum across the genres of Recount and Narrative writing. We will be using a range of personal experiences and digital platforms to create fun and entertaining writing activities.

Maths

In a range of meaningful contexts, students will be engaged in thinking Mathematically and statistically. They will solve problems and model situations that require them to use a range of strategies when operating on numbers.

Social Studies

Our Global Concept for Term 1 is ‘Identity’. We will be learning about our own identity and the rights and responsibilities we have as a citizen of Putāruru College, South Waikato and New Zealand.
