Saturday 22nd February saw nine keen debaters travel to the University of Waikato to attend the senior debating training day. We learnt about structuring a debate and constructing a model to show how to implement a policy. We learnt about rebuttal and different styles of rebuttal - direct and shifting the focus - as well as how to offer and take points of information. The instructors were university students and champion debaters from Auckland and Waikato. The day concluded with a model debate. We will be practising our new skills over the next two weeks at school and looking forward to the first debate of the season on 5th March.
