OUR CURRICULUM | TŌ TĀTOU MARAUTANGA
At Putāruru College, our senior students (Years 11–13) follow personalised learning pathways that support their individual strengths, interests, and future goals. They study towards NCEA or CAA qualifications, choosing from a wide range of subjects including core areas like English, Maths, and Science, as well as specialised options in Technology, Arts, Social Sciences, Languages, Health, Outdoor Education, PE, and more. Senior students also take part in practical learning experiences such as Gateway, Trades Academy, and work-based opportunities to help them explore real-world career options.
Our senior students work towards nationally recognised qualifications through the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) and Common Assessment Activities (CAA). Students earn credits through a mix of internal assessments and external exams, recognising both academic and practical skills. CAAs provide additional opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning in a more applied, hands-on context, ensuring every learner has the chance to succeed in ways that suit their strengths and future goals.
With more complex timetables, having 5 periods a day, increases independence and students are supported by experienced teachers and Pou Arahi to ensure they are on track for success in school and beyond.
