SOCIAL SCIENCE AND LANGUAGES | PŪTAIAO PĀPORI ME NGĀ REO
Social Science and Languages at Putāruru College help students explore the world around them through the study of geography, history, economics, citizenship, culture, and social justice.
We also support the development of Te Reo Māori and tikanga Māori across all year levels. This course focuses on developing fluency in Te Reo Māori, along with kapa haka and tikanga. It is designed to prepare students for NCEA-level study.
In the senior school, students can choose from Te Reo Māori, Humanities, History, Classical Studies, and Tourism. These NCEA courses offer at least 14 credits and allow students to explore topics such as coastal erosion, local and national history, the ancient worlds of Greece and Rome, and the tourism industry. These subjects help students build critical thinking, research, and communication skills—foundations for careers in law, education, tourism, environmental planning, and beyond.
Social Sciences and Te Reo Māori also offer rich opportunities for learning outside the classroom. Recent experiences include:
